US Influence and a Caribbean Post‐Colonial State

SUMMARY This article deals with the political changes produced in Trinidad by the intensification of the 'anti‐imperialist' political struggle—overwhelmingly working‐class in origin— against foreign domination of the Trinidad economy. The outcome of political and economic crisis has been to emphasize the hegemony of American capital, to underline the subordinate status of national capital in the dominant political alliance, and to encourage the emergence of a specifically working‐class political movement as the major force challenging current political arrangements.RESUME Influence des USA et un état post‐colonialCet article traite des changements politiques entrainés à la Trinité par l'intensification de la lutte anti‐impérialiste— d'origine éminemment ouvrière—contre la domination étrangère de l'économie de l'ile.
